7 Ways to Celebrate Easter

It’s amazing to me how each year I wait and wait and watch and watch for Spring. And then it seems like one morning I look out and see green (well, greenish) grass, tiny flowers peeking up out of the ground, and hear birds singing. It’s here, or at least it’s almost here!

One of the best days each spring is Easter, which is also almost here! We’ve been rounding up some ideas for you to use as you celebrate this year – whether that’s in person or virtually.  So without further watching and waiting…..let’s get hopping!

1. Turn your shipping box into an Easter basket!  

If you are celebrating virtually this year (like me!) it’s so fun to send a basket of goodies, but it can be a challenge to find a box that that works for shipping.  So let’s just turn that shipping box into part of the fun – start by lining the box with fun wrapping paper, or white craft paper.  After that, you could:

-write fun messages or jokes in the box.

-adhere envelopes to the inside of the box with extra goodies stickers, a giftcard or notes

-add springtime trivia such as  ‘What is the most purchased candy at Easter?’ (chocolate) ‘Which country holds the record for the largest chocolate egg?’ (Italy)

-write some additional clues to solve a ‘puzzle’  and add your phone number – they can call you to reveal their answer.

-Then fill the ‘basket’ with whatever fun Easter surprises for your grandchild – or maybe even your grown child!

2. Filled Eggs

With the help of your grown kids, send some filled plastic Easter eggs they can hide for your grandkids to find.  What to put inside?

-puzzle pieces: they can collect the pieces and work on the puzzle after finding all the eggs. Just make sure to match the size of the eggs you send to the size of the puzzle piece!

-candy

-stickers

-a mini lego set

-money (especially for older grandkids!)

-What do your grandkids like? Morgan, my oldest granddaughter, is super into bandaids right now, and those would be a hit with her!

3. Glow in the dark eggs

If you live nearby, get some plastic eggs and mini glow sticks. Once you have a date and time coordinated with your grown kids, sneak over to their house at night and quickly hide the eggs outside. Your grandkids will have a great time finding these glowing treasures.

Send your grown kids and grandkids some eggs containing discussion starters. (Or cut out egg shapes, write the questions on them, and send them in an envelope.)  They can choose an egg ‘to crack’ at dinner, or maybe on a car ride, and have fun answering the questions. This would be a really fun way to spend a bit of time together with the whole family virtually as well!  Here are some questions to get you started:

-If you could trade places with someone for a day, who would it be and what would you do?

-If you opened a store and could only sell one thing, what would it be?

-What world problem would you like to solve?

-Where is your favorite place to be?

-What is something you would like to learn to do?

-If you could be an Olympic athlete, what sport would you compete in?

-What makes someone a really good friend?

6. A QR Egg hunt

This will be new to our family this year, and would be fun for older grandkids too!  We’ve created some egg finding clues below that can be read using a QR reader on a smartphone. There are a couple of ways you could do this:

-You could provide the first code (clue) that will lead them to an egg.  The remaining codes can be placed inside each egg.

-You could also make it a race if you have multiple grandkids. Just make a set of codes for each grandchild.  Set their stacks on a table.  When you say go, kids grab a code from the stack, use a parent’s phone to scan the code, ‘read’ it, and go find their eggs. (Remind them to just take one from each spot and to keep the location a secret!). 

There are lots of QR creators/scanners available in the App Store – you’ll find it simple to create your own codes to send any time of year.
