We inspire grandparents daily
I used to think I needed proximity to have a relationship with my grandkids.
So first, let me address my fellow long distance grandparents. When the conversation came that my kids (and therefore my grandkids) were moving 3 hours away, I was heartbroken. That first year was tough. I was always looking back thinking “ya FaceTime is great, but imagine if…” My expectations were definitely a lead in the bucket of life experiences with my family.
I started researching and learning and over time I realized that somewhere along the way my expectations had been placed firmly on the shoulders of my kids, rather than mine, and that had to change. My children needed to be free to create their own version of family, not to live out mine. If I said it wasn’t hard to not be near them I’d be lying, BUT I really need you to know, as a fellow long distance grandparent – there’s hope!

Hi I’m Susan! I founded Over the River with my daughter Amanda almost six years ago while standing in line at a Fred Meyer. After working hard to normalize our long distance relationships we realized we could help other grandparents do the same.
I’m really passionate about serving families and have had some great experiences (almost 30 years worth now) working with kids in a variety of settings. It’s all about making a plan and holding it lightly!
I love this company and am honored to be a part of this community serving grandparents both near and far to their grandkids. Join in!
