16 Movies to Watch with Your Grandkids

Who doesn’t love snuggling up with a fun Christmas movie?

We’re getting right to the point today with a list of our favorites along with a few ideas to take Christmas Movie Night to the next level!

We’ll start with our movie list – there’s something for everyone here!

We check with our grown kids about how much, and what types of shows and movies are given the green light in their families.  If you are looking for a great resource to provide them with information regarding content, check out Plugged In

If you’re looking for even more ideas you can check out this list but together by Country Living:

27 best Christmas movies for Kids on Netflix to Watch this Season.

While I would not agree these are all kids movies, there are plenty of great choices here.  Also – make sure to pick a movie to enjoy as you do some Christmas prep!

Now, to take your movie night to the next level consider adding the following:

Invitations

A fun movie-themed invitation is a nice touch. There is a cute free one you can use in the Ultimate Holiday Guide for Grandparents!

Trivia

Watch your selected title first, and write down some trivia questions. Then, when the movie is over, play a little Trivia game and see who can remember all the little details!

You might preview the questions if your grandkids are younger.

BINGO

Use the blank template provided in the Ultimate Holiday Guide and create Bingo Boards to go with your movie by writing clues in the boxes.

Create a variation of the card for each person watching.  You might also find a generic version online that will fit many movies.

A Santa, Christmas tree, Nativity, Wreath, Present, Snowman….

Snacks

Themed Snacks or pre-movie dinner.

For example here are some ideas to get you started:

Elf – Serve cookies on paper snowflakes

Home Alone – Mac and cheese or cheese pizza

Polar Express – Hot chocolate of course

Merry Christmas Charlie Brown – serve “Snoopy Snack Mix” in little red bowls

The Grinch – green tinted cookies

You get the idea……have fun!

If you, like me, aren’t near your Grandkids, there are still options available to watch a movie together.  Our preferred method is using Zoom. Here’s a link with a video that explains how to use Zoom with streaming services.

You can also plan to watch a movie on your own time and then play a game or do trivia questions and enjoy a snack together virtually. We long-distance grandparents are a diligent and creative bunch!

And our grandkids love us for it!

We are cheering for you as you connect this season!
