This Fall my oldest granddaughter will be heading off to Kindergarten. How exciting!  There will be a lot of talking and preparation for this big day, and some school supply purchasing as well.  I’ve been thinking about a way to make this time exciting for our youngest granddaughter too. She won’t be eligible for preschool until November, so I have decided to send a little “Fall is Fun” care package that includes some great Fall books for preschoolers among other things.  I did a lot of research, and think Kami will absolutely love the following books!

I’m considering purchasing from the following list.

1. We’re Going On a Leaf Hunt

By Steve Metzger. Illustrated by Miki Sakamoto

If you are a fan of Going On a Bear Hunt, this will be a great fit. You’ll join friends as they go over mountains, through forests, around waterfalls, and more to hunt for leaves!

2. Who Loves the Fall?

By Box Raczka & Judy Stead

This book filled with one-word descriptions of people who love Fall reminds me of all the sites, smells, and tastes of the season.  Ms. Michelle’s Storytime also has an excellent version available on YouTube with absolutely perfect sound effects!

3. Fletcher and the Falling Leaves

By Julie Rawlinson

Fletcher is a heartwarming story about a little fox concerned about the leaves falling from his favorite tree. Our kids occasionally see a fox, so this will definitely be in my cart.

4. Apple Picking Day

By Candice Ransom and Erika Meza

Our family has grown apples for decades, and our hope is that the girls will be able to visit during harvest and pick their own apples straight from the tree. But if that isn’t possible, this early reader book captures the essence of visiting the farm beautifully!

5. A Bear’s Year

By Kathy Duval and Gerry Turley

This book follows a mama bear and her cubs through the year. The text is engaging, and the pictures are absolutely charming.  I think this one will be read on repeat!

Fall Care Package

What else will be in my Fall is Fun package besides some great fall books for preschoolers?

This will be so fun to put together. Even though I am not able to be there for these ‘first days’ of Fall, I love that I can send this box full of Fall fun!  I’m sure it will make those mornings when big sister heads off to school special for Kami as well.

We’d love to hear how you celebrate the beginning of Fall with your grandkids!
