A refreshing take on legacy journals for the modern grandparent – because we’re not done living yet.

I want to not only look back and reminisce about the way things were, but continue to make plans and set goals for the future! I want a new kind of legacy journal.

Oh how I need that reminder right now! Maybe you need a little adventure mindset shift too?

In the event that you do, I’ve selected three of my favorite questions, along with some of the planner cards all from the Adventure Journal Pack to share with you.

Journal Reflection Questions

  1. Note the age of one (or more) of your grandchildren. Describe an adventure you had at their age.
  2. What was trendy to do when you were a teenager, and did you take part in that? Why or why not?
  3. Recount an adventure story that has been passed down in your family.

Adventure Planner Cards

  1. Pull out the playing cards and learn a new card game this week. It could be a recommendation from friends or an instructional you tube video.
  2. Plan an adventure you would like to have in the net three months.
  3. Set a timer and start driving. Flip a coin at every intersection. Heads? Turn right. Tails? Turn left. See where you end up. (This one can turn into quite the adventure!)

“It is the relentless pursuit of living life with fresh eyes, determined to become and experience all we are created for that actually creates the adventure.”

A Lift in My Attitude

Summer arrives on Saturday! Like almost every post lately, I feel the need to say that things just look different this year.

As a result we check our email daily in order to make sure that this year’s vacation with our grown kids and grandkids is not cancelled. The traditional BBQ with friends and hanging out at the pool? Not happening where we live.

I’ve been a little mopey.

As we talked about how we can best resource and encourage long distance grandparents this week, Amanda (my daughter and business partner) tossed out the idea of giving away something from the Adventure Kit.

As I considered all the resources we provide in the kit I landed on the Adventure Journal pages (our version of a traditional legacy journal), and after reading through the cover page, I found my attitude lifting.

It Isn’t the Scale of the Adventure that Qualifies It

You see, there’s a little story on the cover about how when we take my husband’s truck somewhere, everything just looks different.

That’s because I am literally viewing everything from a different perspective. And that is the way I am attempting to live. To continually look for the adventure in everyday life. To realize that it isn’t always the scale of the adventure that is the qulifier.

On the contrary, it is the relentless pursuit of living life with fresh eyes, determined to become and experience all we are created for that actually creates the adventure!

My hope is that as you spend even a little bit of time recounting the past that you will also be energized and expectant for the future. That’s why it’s so important to us that in every legacy journal pack there’s an opportunity to set goals for the future as well.

Have I mentioned that Summer arrives on Saturday? Bring it on.
