I love a fun craft and when your grandkids get to the teen phase of life you can enjoy crafting with them without constantly monitoring the quantity of glue! We are always on the hunt for fun ways to connect with grandkids and we know the teen years can be a little tough to find ideas just for them. So we set out to gather some fun projects and this post is all about back to school crafts you can enjoy with your teenage grandkids. Here we go!

DIY Heart Pom Pom Bookmarks

There are actually a number of different pom pom bookmarks out there, but we thought this heart one was unique.

If you are looking for the basic pom pom minus the heart shape a simple google search will do the trick.

With only two needed supplies, this is our kind of craft!

You and your grandkids could make multiple and use them for school, personal reading, gifts for their friends, etc.

It’s one of our favorite back to school crafts we found.

2. DIY Glittery Graphic Pencil Cases

Okay, this one is definitely in the COOL category.

I’m not sure if teens even use the word cool anymore.

Maybe this would be an appropriate time to use the word GOAT (greatest of all time)?

Either way, we love these pencil pouches because they let your grandchild’s personality be the focus!

Fun to make and sure to draw a compliment from friends at school.

3. DIY Lanyard

If your grandchild attends a school where personalized lanyards are allowed then this craft is a great one to save.

Joann’s free download walks you through all the steps to make it and it’s considered a beginner project.

Not only would it be fun to work together, but as a grandparent, you would get to teach a skill such as sewing.

Quality time and a fun product are definitely a win.

4. DIY Office Organizer

A super cute washi tape project is always a good time.

In this blog post, Brittany shows you how she made the containers pictured below using things she had on hand from her kitchen.

Not all students will need (or even have room for) a desk space.

If this back to school craft is one your grandchild is interested in then encourage them to use the organizers wherever they want!

It could be their bedroom, bathroom, locker at school, a car, etc.

5. Painted Pencil Craft

Time to pull out the nail polish!

This craft definitely allows for creativity and we love how simple it is.

You could “polish off” a back of 24 pencils in no time and enjoy great conversation (subscribe for some great conversation starters below) or some tunes in the background as you decorate.

Whichever craft you find yourself gravitating toward, we most importantly hope you enjoy the time you’ll spend with your grandchild as you get creative.

If you are a long-distance grandparent we always encourage you to plan in advance, send supplies ahead of time in the mail, and keep things flexible.

Long distance grandparenting IS different but it won’t stop us from having a ball with the ones we love. Enjoy!
