There’s something special about sharing a snack. it’s not just about the food, it’s also about the laughter, the memories, and the simple joy of doing something together. Whether you are sitting side-by-side or chatting over FaceTime, preparing a simple Spring snack together can be a delightful way to connect with your grandkids. I know my granddaughters are always up for a quick and simple snack!

Here are some fun spring-inspired snack ideas that work for both in-person visits and virtual time together.

Butterfly Snack Bags
- Fill snack-size bags with colorful treats (goldfish, grapes, cereal, etc.)
- Pinch in the middle with a clothespin decorated like a butterfly (with pipe cleaner antennae!)
- Let kids help decorate the clips!
Fruit Flower Garden
- Use sliced strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, and grapes to “build” flowers on a plate.
- Add a small cup of yogurt or honey for dipping.
- Serve on a spring-themed paper plate or tray!
Bunny Sandwiches (or any other spring shape)
- Use cookie cutters to turn PB&J or ham and cheese sandwiches into bunny or flower shapes.
- Let kids choose their own fillings and shapes!
Lemonade & Snack Picnic
- Make lemonade together (or fill up your water bottles) and pack some favorite snacks in a basket.
- Even if it’s just in the backyard or living room, spread out a small blanket or sheet and enjoy a little springtime picnic!
Flower Power Rice Cakes
- Start with a rice cake and spread it with cream cheese, peanut butter, or Nutella.
- Add sliced fruit or veggies in the shape of flowers.
- Show each other your creations on screen! You don’t even have to make flowers! Any cool design will be great.
Spring Trail Mix Challenge
- Before the call, each of you can gather a few snack items (like cereal, dried fruit, pastel M&Ms, pretzels).
- Take turns choosing ingredients to build your own spring mix together!
- Share a toast (with juice or milk!) when you’re done. (“Here’s to Morgan and the last month of school!”)
Rainbow Fruit Skewers
- Grab a few fruits from different color groups—strawberries, oranges, pineapple, grapes, blueberries.
- Each of you can create your rainbow fruit stick and share how delicious they look with each other.
- If skewers aren’t handy, just line your fruit pieces up on a plate. It will still be fun and tasty.
Microwave Mug Cake Party
- Try a super easy mug cake recipe together over video—just a few pantry ingredients and 1 minute in the microwave. Here’s one to try! This would be a fun idea for older grandkids.
- Top with whipped cream or sprinkles.
- Sing a little “spring cheer” song together while it cooks!
One thing to keep in mind for any of the above snacks, is that this is an area where it is wise to talk with your grown kids first to make sure ingredients are available if you are going to have a virtual snack time. It could also be a fun idea to send them a gift card to their local grocery store, or have some snack items delivered.
If you are going to be spending time in person, take them to the store with you so that they can help choose ingredients. A wise leader once told me “People own what they help to create.” I think this is especially true with kids in the kitchen!
Snacks don’t have to be complicated to be memorable. Whether you’re dipping strawberries in chocolate or building a fun shaped sandwich, these simple spring snacks are just another way to make time together feel special. And the best part? You don’t even have to be in the same kitchen to share a sweet moment.
