Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! This year I sent a little something with a homemade touch to the grandkids. I used foam hearts as the foundation for what I sent. The goal was to send several activities that we could play virtually, or they can enjoy on their own. This post is all about those 3 DIY valentine games for preschoolers.
The Foam Hearts
I intended to purchase my hearts all in one color, but that turned out to be a challenge!
So I went with this 48-piece foam heart set, which contained three colors of hearts, 16 in each color.
That was enough hearts to accomplish everything on the list for my granddaughter’s ages.
Valentine Memory Match
The Memory Match game I sent contained 16 pieces of one color, as that is how many are available in the set I purchased.
16 memory match cards is a great amount for younger grandkids.
Then I ordered these super cute heart animal stickers and put 8 matching sets on the hearts.
There are a ton of stickers on that roll, 500! I’ll probably throw in some extras, and also keep some here for the next sticker idea that pops up, or they can use them during craft time when they visit.
If your grandkids aren’t into animal stickers, these heart designs are another great option. This will be a fun game to play in person, virtually, or they can play it on their own.
Valentine Puzzles
My 3-year-old granddaughter is completely into her letters right now, In fact, each family member “owns” the letter their name begins with.
K is ONLY for Kami.
Morgan is in Kindergarten and learning to read.
When it comes to valentine games for preschoolers my granddaughters are both just around that age and they enjoyed this game!
I cut the foam hearts basically in half, but with a varied curve or zig-zag to each cut.
On one half I wrote a letter (using a sharpie).
On the other half, I wrote out the rest of a family member’s name.
I also used the names of some friends from school as well.
They are having fun putting these 2 piece puzzles together!

Valentine Musical Hearts
Write a fun ‘action’ on each heart.
Spread the hearts out in a large circle pattern, start some music, and encourage the kids (or family!) to walk carefully around the circle.
When the music stops, each person will perform the action written on the heart.
You might use ‘give a hug’ ‘share a smile’ ‘do a push up’ ‘turn around 3 times’ and ‘blow a kiss’.
This is a great time to use your grandchild’s favorite activity.
For example, Kami’s in dance and knows the ‘shuffle down’ step, so that was included for sure!
Bonus! – Heart Search
You can certainly play ‘Heart Search’ with any of these activity components.
You could assign each child a color if more than one child is playing.
How many hearts can they find in a minute? Two minutes?
Boost the challenge by having them find matching pairs of the Memory Match and Puzzle hearts before they can collect any additional hearts.
